Marci McAdams has been a Special Olympics Florida volunteer for 18 years, taking part in county, area, and state level games. Marci, who’s from Columbia County, has what might be the best volunteer role in all of Special Olympics. She presents athletes with the awards they’ve won in competition.
“Every time I attend an event, it’s such a rewarding experience,” she said. “For me, it’s just about the smiles on athletes’ faces when I give them their awards.”
Today, in addition to Marci’s state volunteer role, she supports her county programs and athletes as a full-time volunteer. She arranges coaching training for Area 3 and coaches and
assists with Athlete Leadership where needed. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Marci volunteered her time contacting athletes and their caregivers, while supporting SOFL health programs.
After almost 20 of volunteering, Marci says it’s impossible to name her most memorable moment.
“Every single event brings me so much joy,” she said. “I can’t imagine my life without Special Olympics Florida.”
